A section of 6 full-time technicians was simulating compressor-piping interaction using a huge number of electronic components (capacitors, inductors, etc.) to predict where acoustical resonances could cause structural failures. This labor-intensive technique took a team of two people two weeks to assemble the model, run the initial simulation, revise the model, run the revised simulations, disassemble the model, and manually prepare a report.
By digitizing the entire process, it now takes a single person two days to complete a job with multiple revisions, and generate a finished report.
The Acoustic Modeling Software is a suite of four programs:
- Model Builder allows one person to assemble virtual components on screen (screen 1), describe the model (screen 2), describe the associated cylinders (screen 3), and generate a text file (screen4) that details every element in the model.
- Server Link communicates the virtual models over the Internet to a server computer and retrieves results(screen 5).
- Digital Acoustic Modeler accomplishes the numerical processing of the model (not shown).
- Model Reviewer allows the user to examine all modeled data and generate reports that contain only significant points (screens 6-9).
Running the Modeler itself on a separate computer allows multiple remote users to access one high-speed numerical processor, either over a local network, or over the Internet.
